Thanksgiving 2008

Nov 30

HAPPY TURKEY DAY!

YYYYYYYYYYYYYY

So thankful for one another!

Joe and I decided we wanted to host Thanksgiving dinner at our house again this year. My mom, dad, sister, and brother-in-law came. Joey and I were going to fry a turkey, but we decided against it. Instead we got a turkey and brined it for 8 hours and cooked it special. It was absolutely the most delicious, juiciest turkey I have ever had.

Along with it, I made a chestnut sage stuffing and cheesy mashed potatoes. Everyone enjoyed the meal and my dad even said that it was the best turkey he had ever tasted....which for him to say, is really a compliment. We had a nice time and we are thankful for everything we have...including each other.

Somebody was sleepy afterward.

Rocky had fun playing with Uncle Aaron.

Leslie served up some yummy pie.

Our New Condo

Nov 19

This is Joe and I's new condo in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

It is on the Intracoastal canal (Coral Ridge Isles area)

The condo is newly remodeled and has two master bedrooms and two full baths. We can also bring Rocky, because pets are allowed!

It is on the water, so we might get a three seater jet ski to put at the dock. We can also just hang out by the pool area.

Here is some more info on the area:

Coral Ridge Isles is a beautiful Fort Lauderdale real estate neighborhood consisting of 1,000 homes with nearly 400 of these being waterfront homes with ocean access.

Coral Ridge Isles is an upscale Fort Lauderdale real estate community located just minutes from the turquoise blue Atlantic and is replete with wonderful entertainment, dining, shopping, transportation and education options.

In close proximity to the Coral Ridge Isles community, are fine restaurants on the beach where you can dig your toes in the sand while you enjoy the freshest bounty from the sea or friendly neighborhood grilles, upscale steak houses, ethnic foods, and fabulous dining options with food prepared right at your table. On one hand, there are dinner shows that thrill visitors with the excitement of fire and dance and, on the other, romantic waterfront dining experiences with multi-million dollar yachts gliding by.

I have already started shopping for furniture and can't wait to go down for a nice relaxing vacation!

Cooking Class

Nov 19

For my 28th birthday, Joey got me a gift certificate for the New York Wine & Culinary Center in Canandaigua. I had been there with Joe before and I fell in love with the hands-on kitchen and thought it would be fun to take a class there. I looked online and booked a class. It was called Mushroom Madness. The menu items sounded yummy.

Well, last night I went for my cooking class. My neighbor, Barb, and her daughter came too. I had an absolute blast!!!!!!! The kitchen was gorgeous and the class was full. Amy, my neighbor's daughter, and I were the youngest people there. We were nervous about our lack of culinary experience. Everyone else looked as if they knew what they were doing. Amy and I were partners as well. We worked together on the Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Mushroom Ragout. It was fun to search around the kitchen for our ingredients and to be held responsible for making the meal taste yummy.

Amy is a pro

There were three cooking islands, four stations at each island, and two people at each station. After we finished creating our yummy meals with mushrooms, we gathered it all and got to eat it all up. There was beef wellington, mushroom risotto, a mushroom soup, mushroom biscotti, vegetable and mushroom lasagna, portobello mushroom burgers, some other mushroom appetizer, and my yummy pork tenderloin dish. They served us NYS wine as we stuffed our faces with the delicious creations. We even got to take home left overs. Joey munched on some when I got home and was surprised at my special new skills.

What a masterpiece!!

I had a blast and am already looking in to returning to take another class.

Update on Dad

Nov 10

I spoke to my mom on the phone this morning and she says that my dad has really been trying his best to cut down on the smoking. I was relieved to hear this and am proud of him. It has got to be a very difficult thing to stop something that you have been so used to doing...especially when it is so addicting. He is even trying it without the patch or any of those pills. So, I say, "NICE JOB DAD!!" Keep up the good work!

Dad's Visit to the Hospital

Nov 06

About two years ago my dad had chest pains and went in to the hospital to have his heart looked at. They did an angiogram and found that he had multiple blockages and they had to put a stent in. His doctor told him that he needed to quit drinking and especially smoking or else he would be in the same situation a few years down the line.

Well.....it has been a few years now and pops went to the doc and testing showed that there could be more problems. Today, he went to the hospital for a scheduled cardiac catheter. This is when they go into an artery in your groin area and go all the way up to your heart to take a look at what is going on. Well since he did not quit drinking or smoking....there were more blockages. He was all spastic about the possibility of having to spend the night at the hospital, but his doctor said there was nothing else they could do to that artery and that no stent or angiogram was going to help. He was going to be able to go home in a couple of hours. She also said that he NEEDED to quit smoking ASAP or his other artery would become blocked as well.

After waiting two and a half long hours, listening to my dad bitch and moan to the nurses and be quite disruptive (as to be expected), he was discharged and my mom took him home. My sis and I went back to their house to see if he would follow the strict procedures needed after this test, like: stay reclined for the rest of the day with your leg elevated, no heavy lifting, no driving for two days, and NO DRINKING OR SMOKING!

So, do you think he followed these directions, or took the advice of his doctor to stop smoking??? Take a look.

YEAH RIGHT!!! Someone doesn't care about taking care of himself!

Halloween Party

Nov 03

My friend Megan, who I teach with, had a Halloween Party on Saturday. Costumes were, of course, a requirement. Joe and I went as punk rockers. We looked hysterical and had a blast.

Megan was a Geisha girl and her dog Kiwi was a bumble bee

Me, Stina and Megan

The #39 school teachers: Megan, Kelly, Me and Stina

We are pretty sexy in our costumes!

Me rockin out next to Joey

Joe was sleepy toward the end of the night and I was messing with him. LOL!

pumpkin picture

Nov 01

Joey took a picture of my pumpkin last night. I knew you all wanted to see my special carving skills. I think I did quite well...and actually I won 2nd place in the neighborhood pumpkin contest.

Halloween

Oct 31

My neighbor and me all dressed up!
Yah man...we be jammin'
What a cute little puppy!
Arf, Arf mommy...I hate this wig.

Well after a long, crazy day at work, I went home and put my costume on for a test-run for tomorrow night. I am a punk rocker, and Joey was a rasta man for tonight. Rocky also dressed up in his special costume. He wore his red wig and was the Wendy's girl. He is too cute!!!! Tomorrow we are going to another Halloween party and we are both going to be punk rockers. Here are some pics. I am exhausted now and have to get up and teach either extremely hyper kids or kids that got no sleep the night before. Yicks!

Tuna Noodle Casserole and pumpkins

Oct 28

Tonight I decided to make some yummy tuna noodle casserole. I mean...who doesn't like it? I must have had a craving for it. Well, after putting all the ingredients together and putting it in the oven....blah blah blah...it all turned out to be a waste. I have decided that my cooking sucks! How could I screw up tuna casserole? Anyways....it really blew and Joey only had like a spoonful. I wound up dumping it down the garbage disposal. There was no way it would have survived as a leftover. Joe jokes with me and says that I can only cook things with three ingredients or less. Now I am not even sure of that. My sister was always the one who got to help in the kitchen when we were younger. I think that is what my issue is. It all stems from not being allowed to help. Thanks Leslie and mom!

After my disaster of a dinner, I decided to carve my huge pumpkin. I have two but after doing the one, I was exhausted. I went with a scary face and just started carving away. My neighbor and her daughter came over and they carved theirs too. It was a carving party. I never realized what a workout carving a pumpkin can be. I got a little hot and needed to take a couple breaks. Well after all that, I went to take a picture of my finished product and my freakin' camera battery was dead! That really ticked me off. I will have to post a pic of it when it is better....and when it isn't too darn cold outside to take it. Now, I am relaxing and cooking up some tasty pumpkin seeds. I make some really spicy for Joey and some regular ones for me. Yum.

I can't believe kids nowadays!

Oct 27

Today at school I had a crazy day. Well...it started off really nice with me and Julie ( the other teacher I work with) out of the classroom all morning until noon for meetings. Then, it all went down hill from there. I went to pick up the kids from lunch and I saw that they were outside on the field. I have to say that I hate when the lunch ladies take them out because they get soooooo crazy and it is hard to calm them down or they get into a crap load of problems. Well today was one of those times. As soon as I got outside, one of my girls ran up to me flipping out saying that so-and-so said they were going to rape her. She was visibly upset and said she wanted her mom to come in and so on. I couldn't believe that this was something I would have to deal with. After I got all the kids lined up and took them upstairs to the class, I spoke with my co-teacher and told her the situation. Well.....long story short. I had to call the accused little boys mom and she cursed like crazy on the phone wondering how he heard that and blah blah. She wound up coming in and almost beat the crap out of him. After I finally got her to calm down, she left him at school and she went home.  All of my other students had to listen to her bitch him out in the hall...it was quite scary and even though my assistant principal and the social worker were there, they weren't saying a darn thing.

After all that, we held a meeting in my office with the six kids that were supposedly involved, me and Julie (my co-teacher), the principal, assistant principal, and the social worker. We had to explain to them what rape meant and that it was a serious offense to accuse someone of it and to be accused of it. The kids really had no clue what was going on and what their words meant. Basically, we never really found out who said what and the kids came up with ways to avoid this crap from happening again. I had to call all the parents and explain what happened. At this point, I had a huge headache and was upset myself. At the age of nine these thoughts of rape and doing "the nasty", as the kids say, did not even run through my mind. I didn't even know anything about that stuff.  Now, I hear these things from these kids on a daily basis. It is scary. Having to tell a little girls mom that a boy said he wanted to rape her was tough to do. I could only imagine if I was that girls mom, hearing this over the phone and the thought that my child was not safe at school. It is just mind boggling!  All of the parents I spoke to were very understanding and I got through it. You wonder if these kids are just mimicking the crap they see at home, or maybe it is t.v. Who knows. Don't you all wish you worked in the city?? LOL!  I am glad today is over!!!!

New Mexican Restaurant...yum!

Oct 26

Joey and I enjoying our margaritas...yum

Last night, Joey and I went to try a new restaurant at Corn Hill Landing. It is called Chayote Mexican Cuisine. We go to Corn Hill Landing for a couple of other good restaurants (Siam, Virtu), so we thought we would try this one out.

Joey and I decided to sit at the bar area, which was nice cuz we were the only ones at it. We asked the waiter for two beers and he let us know that because they opened not to long ago that they did not yet have a liquor license. Well no worries....he said we could go to the corner liquor store and bring back whatever we wanted. So.....I walked over and got us a big bottle of Margarita and a small bottle of Tequila. The waiter guy hooked us up with some glasses and salt for the rims and it was perfect.

I absolutely LOVED our meal, it was delicious.  They start you off with homemade chips and salsa....who doesn't love that?! Then we had two appetizers...the Ceviche and some other one with pablano peppers. The Ceviche was totally awesome!!!! I will definitely go back there just to have that. It was tilapia fish with sliced avocado, tomatoes, onion, cilantro, lime and citrus juice. YUM! It reminded me of conche salad we had in the Bahamas. To complete our meal we split the beef enchiladas.

I totally recommend this restaurant. I like it better than Salena's and Blue Cactus in Fairport. Try it out!!!

check out this great pic of the ceviche that a photographer took...

A new day....

Oct 23

Well, I made it through the night. I was very down and I think my neighbors who I rode to the show with could tell. The visit to my doctor was quite informative. SOOOOO much information I could barely process half of it. She went through the whole IVF process and all the many things that could go wrong and the whole cost issue. When I left, I couldn't even get myself to go through the big folder of more information she gave us.

When I got to the auditorium theatre I got myself a glass a wine and tried to unwind. It worked and I really enjoyed the musical (Legally Blond). The girl in the main role acted just like Reese Witherspoon. I thought it was really great. I barely said anything to my mom, sis, or grandmother. I found myself thinking and thinking about all the info thrown at me earlier. I almost had to fight back some tears. Yicks....how pathetic. At home afterward, I got right in bed and played around with my new blog background. This may be more addicting than Myspace and all that other junk.

Today, when I got to work, the lady I work with asked me how the class was and I got a little choked up. Moving on......the day is going better and I am looking forward to tomorrow being Friday...even though I have to stay late for a meeting tonight.....AND this Saturday is the first day of Saturday school. ugh!

New to this whole thing...

Oct 22

Even though Joey and I have no children and family of our own...I figured we could have a blog too. I am making this at school, which is probably not such a fantastic idea...but oh well.

I am kind of cranky today but am so busy that I don't really have time to stop and think about it. Some of you may know that we are trying to get pregnant and it has been a difficult process. I am bumming today partly because I know I am not. On to the next step I guess. Going to the doc again today for a class on IVF :-( I told Joey the other day that I feel I am becoming a very bitter person, and I don't necessarily like that about myself. Ya see...mostly everyone I know can pop kids out with no problems, and then there's me who will probably have to pay to have a kid. It just sucks!!!!!

On the brighter side....My sis finds out the sex of her baby today. I really hope it is a girl and so does her hubby. We shall see!! Tonight we are going to see Legally Blond (my mom, Leslie, grammy, me, and my neighbors). It is supposed to be really good. I am excited. We bought season tickets for the whole broadway season, so we get to see lots of shows.

Well...hopefully my busy evening will keep my mind off my inability to conceive.

2nd Anniversary!

Oct 01

Well, we have made it two years together and everything has been wonderful. On our anniversary (9/30) we decided to go out for a fancy dinner at The Inn on Broadway. My sis got married there and since then we have gone there to have drinks and eat their yummy food.

We had a nice bottle of red wine and I had a cosmo or two. It was nice and quaint and we enjoyed talking about everything we accomplished in our second year of marraige.

Through out dinner we exchanged gifts. I got Joey a nice nail cleaner from Sephora...he likes to have nice clean nails. I also got him a new laptop bag for his new MacBook. He loved it!!!

Joey looked so handsome!

And for his final gift, I got him a alligator skin cigar case that holds to nice cigars (which I also purchased). He was really surprised and LOVED the cigar case!! You can see in the pics. LOL!
Oh Boy!!! The cigar must smell nice.

Joey got me three really nice charms for my Pandora charm bracelet. My bracelet is almost full now! Overall, we had a really nice night and are looking forward to many more happy years together.
